Leslie Carter, the 25 year old sister of pop stars Nick and Aaron Carter, passed away on Tuesday in Upstate New York.
“Our family is grieving right now and it’s a private matter,” the family told Access Hollywood in a statement Tuesday. "We are deeply saddened for the loss of our beloved sister, daughter, and granddaughter, Leslie Carter."
The family continued:
“We request the utmost privacy during this difficult time.”
No further details have yet been released over Leslie Carter's death.
Leslie was a singer and married in 2008. She and her husband welcomed their daughter, Alyssa Jane Ashton, into the world on April 1, 2011.
Leslie played the piano and clarinet, going along with the Carter family's interest in music. The singer signed a deal with DreamWorks Records in 1999 on an album that will now never be released. Dreamworks reportedly wanted to sample Carter's fan base was before releasing the album, in order to make sure it was successful. But a family friend said:
"They wanted her to fit into the mold of singers like Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera, and that's not who Leslie is. She wants to do things her own way, and she's not going to conform her ideals to fit into what someone else wants her to be."
Her single, however, was released. Titled Like Wow!, the song was included on the soundtrack for the movie Shrek. Leslie also appeared on the family's 2006 reality show, House of Carters.
Leslie was the older sister of Aaron and the younger sister of Nick. She also had two sisters, and an older half-sister from her father's first marriage.
