Somehow, another human being came out of tiny Natalie Portman yesterday. It seems like only yesterday she was struggling to make George Lucas' lines sound believable, (Anakin, you're breaking my heart!) but the Oscar winner has come a long way.
Portman met her fiancé, Benjamin Millepied, on the set of Black Swan, and we're getting to know more about the famed choreographer and how he locked down Natalie.
He's French. Natalie likes her men like she likes her fries: French. Benjamin grew up in Bordeaux, France. He was raised in Senegal but returned to France between the ages of 13 and 16 to study at the Conservatoire National in Lyon.
He's a Budding Director: Millepied told Details magazine he hopes to direct in the future and has some projects he wants to pitch for Broadway. Not that impregnating Natalie Portman was a career goal, but it's certainly doesn’t hurt. Hello, Hollywood power couple!
He Might be a Diva: At an event, a reporter from the New York Times apparently asked Millepied about Natalie, and Benjamin had the reporter thrown out of the event. The exact question was "How's Natalie Doing". Sacre Bleu! The Times reported:
"[Millepied] demanded that a correspondent for The New York Times’ Nocturnalist column be kicked out of a New York University fete after she innocently inquired about the state of his pregnant fiancée…' You’re being funny?' we’re told the Francophile 'snarled' at the reporter, in a performance worthy of a Darren Aronofsky film."
He's Tatted Up: Benjamin has an artsy, bizarre tattoo on the left side of his abs. The tattoo is inspired by a logo created by Bauhaus painter Oskar Schlemmer. Millepied says he has a deep interest in 1920s art, so that's surely what inspired the tat. It's better than a lower back tattoo that says, "Believe".
He Left His Girlfriend: Benjamin and Natalie are a hot Hollywood couple, and that usually means someone was left heartbroken. Around the time that he started dating Natalie, Benjamin was dating longtime, live-in girlfriend, dancer Isabella Boylston. The couple had an apartment in New York City's East Village and in October of 2009, Benjamin took Isabella back to his hometown in France.
“I feel like I’m heading in the right direction,” Isabella told Pointe magazine at the time. A few months later, Millepied met Natalie on the set of Black Swan. Oops.
