Johnny Depp was lounging around in Egyptian cotton pajamas this morning, sprawled out in bed when he got a phone call.
It wasn’t a good phone call.
Johnny’s agents over at UTA dialed him bedside to ask if he’d consider slipping out from under his blankets to star in a movie for less than $20 million.
The gall of some people to ask for anything less, right?
Johnny then declined because it’s his standard “per picture” fee and remained in bed, which is bad news for the film Black Mass, which many industry insiders had already considered to be his next motion picture.
The film is a biopic on notorious Boston mobster Whitey Bulger with Academy Award-winning director Barry Levinson (of Rain Man and The Natural) at the helm.
However, after underwhelming foreign presales at Cannes this year, the producers had to lower the $65 million budget and are asking if Johnny would be willing to take a pay cut for the sake of the film.
Turns out he isn’t willing to make that sacrifice. But you guys, don’t get judgemental—he does have his own personal island to maintain and those aren’t cheap.
