The 5 Up and Coming Actresses Under 25 to Watch in 2012

Every awards season ushers in a new crop of young talent.

This year, names like Chloe Moretz and Shailene Woodley are on everybody’s lips which makes us say “Dakota Fanning who?” These are the up-and-coming stars under the age of 25.

Sorry Blake Lively and Emma Stone, but you are just soooo 2009, here’s the new crop of Hollywood’s young elite.

Under 25

Jennifer Lawrence: 21-year-old Jennifer Lawrence grabbed everyone’s attention with her Oscar nominated role in last years drama “Winter’s Bone” but now she’s really gaining steam as the new it-girl starring in the upcoming event film “The Hunger Games” which is a trilogy, so get used to seeing her face. Her blonde locks and California-girl vibe put make her an instant qualifier for someone that Leonardo DiCaprio would date. Dare I say she’s even the “new” Blake Lively? There, I said it.

Shailene Woodley

Shailene Woodley: 20-year-old Shailene Woodley has been turning heads for her role as George Clooney’s daughter in the Golden Globe winning flick “The Descendants.” She was nominated for a Golden Globe this year and has been stunning this entire red carpet season. She technically made her debut as the lead on “The Secret Life of the American Teenager.”

Chloe Grace Moretz

Chloe Grace Moretz: Chloe has been in flicks like “500 Days of Summer” as Joseph Gordon Levitt’s precocious kid sister, as a child vampire in “Let Me In” and now as one of the leads in Oscar nominated film “Hugo.” At only 15 years old, she can rock a Miu Miu dress on the red carpet and is basically the new Dakota Fanning.

Elle Fanning

Elle Fanning: Okay, I said Chloe Grace Moretz was the new Dakota Fanning, but Dakota’s little sister Elle is definitely the “new” Dakota Fanning, mostly because they share similar DNA and look so alike. While Dakota is off “going to college” aka posing for Cosmo magazine, her 14-year-old sister is doing all the heavy lifting in terms of acting. Appearing opposite Matt Damon in this years, “We Bought A Zoo” she’s going to appear next in “Bomb” with Annette Bening and Christina Hendricks.

Elizabeth Olsen

Elizabeth Olsen: Don’t let the last name fool you, 22-year-old Elizabeth Olsen is the kid sister to Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, but she can actually act. She technically made her big screen debut in the Olsen twin straight-to-video, “How the West Was Fun” but didn’t resurface until 2011, starring in the buzzed about indie flick “Martha Marcy May Marlene.” She’s a little more indie than the rest, so I guess she’s like the Kristen Stewart of 2012.
