Born Zoë Yadira Saldaña Nazario on June19, 1978, in Passaic, New Jersey, Zoe Saldana was raised in the Dominican Republic where she first began studying dance at ECOS Espacio de Danza Academy.
At the age of 17, Zoe returned to New York to perform with the New York Youth Theater, which eventually led to her being discovered by a talent agent. Soon after, the aspiring actress made her on-screen debut in the TV series Law & Order (1999) prior to landing her big break as a ballet dancer in the drama Center Stage (2000).
Following supporting roles in the comedy Get Over It! (2001) and Britney Spear's film Crossroads (2002), Zoe returned to her dancing roots in the dramedy Drumline (2002) opposite Nick Cannon. She continued to gain popularity with appearances in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003), The Terminal (2004) with Tom Hanks and Haven (2004) alongside Orlando Bloom before reaching stardom for her well-received comedic performance opposite Ashton Kutcher in Guess Who (2005).
In 2009, Zoe's career gained additional momentum in result of memorable performances in the blockbuster megahits Star Trek as Uhura and Avatar as Neytiri. He understands what I do, but this not what he fell in love with and that's what I love."
In November 2011, however, breakup rumors began to circulate when Zoe tweeted "'You, yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection.' - Buddha." The rumors were eventually confirmed when Zoe's rep released a statement regarding the couple's split, which revealed that the two "amicably separated after 11 years."

Rumors that Zoe was dating fellow-actor Bradley Cooper began circulating when they were caught making-out on New Year's Eve and later showed up hand-in-hand at the Sunday Film Festival to promote The Words, but the romance died down a few months later.
