Never would I ever pair Efron and Kidman together as an onscreen couple, but in this instance, this twosome is totally working.
The movie stars Efron, Kidman, Matthew McConaughey, David Oyelowo, Macy Gray, and John Cusack and tells the story of a man wrongfully held on death row (Cusack), his lover (Kidman), and the paperboy (Efron) and his reporter brother investigating the case.
But here’s the dramalicious part, while Cusack is in prison, Kidman has an affair with Efron – because he’s the paperboy, and if I learned anything from movies set in the ‘40s, it’s that paperboys are always very attractive 13-year-olds…wait WHAT!?
Well, Z-Efron plays an age-appropriate paperboy but it’s still scandalous.
The flick is written and directed by Lee Daniels, the same guy who directed Precious but unlike Precious, The Paperboy looks good in a “good” way and not in a “I’m supposed to like this movie or else I’ll be considered racist” way.
There were also some rumors swirling about this film when it was revealed that Nicole Kidman pees on Zac Efron’s character. Before you dismiss this as some kind of kinky love fest, the peeing scene is because Efron’s character is stung by a jellyfish and not because the director was inspired by R. Kelly’s sex tape.
The Paperboy is scheduled to be released on October 5.
