After a long, exciting and drama filled season, the US version of X-Factor finally crowned its first winner tonight.
During part I of Wednesday night’s season finale, Melanie Amaro, Josh Krajcik and Chris Rene were the last three remaining contestants. But in the end there was only one man standing…or one woman. Crowd favorite Melanie Amaro was crowned the first winner of X-Factor, scoring a $5 million dollar recording contract.
"Oh my god! Oh my god! Oh my god!" was all she could get out through tears before falling to her knees to pray.
"America, thank you for giving this girl an opportunity," Simon said on her behalf. "She is a star."
Simon Cowell said the trio represented one of the most talented group of finalists he had ever seen, but in the end it was clear his protégé Melanie shined a little brighter.
19-year-old Amaro won on Thursday following her duet with R. Kelly on "I Believe I Can Fly" and rendition of Beyoncé's "Listen” on Wednesday night. Needless to say, she blew the judges away. And the audience!
After she was crowned the winner, she was still speechless. "Thank you so much!" she said. "I don't know what to say. Thank you. God is good."
Runner up Josh said: "I feel amazing. Melanie deserves it. She has a wonderful voice. I've had such an incredible experience here ... I couldn't be happier."
And Rene was just happy to be apart of something so huge. "I feel amazing that I got to do this, that I'm here and that God has blessed me with so many opportunities," Rene said. "I just got to say thank you."
Who were you rooting for? Do you think Melanie deserved to win?
