When a 7.0 magnitude earthquake hit Port-au- Prince, Haiti on Tuesday, January 12, 2010, Wyclef Jean stepped up and raised funds, awareness and even flew to the devastated country to help aid the victims. So it should come as no surprise that Wyclef is now reportedly considering running for President of Haiti.
“Wyclef’s commitment to his homeland and its youth is boundless, and he will remain its greatest supporter regardless of whether he is part of the government moving forward.”
“At this time, Wyclef Jean has not announced his intent to run for Haitian president. If and when a decision is made, media will be alerted immediately.”
The National Post claims that a “source close to the government” says Jean is waiting for paperwork to be processed so he can officially announce his decision to run.
The current president, René Préval, is barred by Haiti's laws from seeking a third term. Polls set for February and March were cancelled by the earthquake that devastated the country back in January, so they'll now be held on November 28. Go Wyclef! We're rooting for you!
