One week ago today, the world lost a legend. Whitney Houston tragically lost her life at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Los Angeles, and today, she’s being memorialized in Newark, New Jersey.
After a heartbreaking week of mourning and sorrow, Whitney Houston’s friends and family are pouring into The New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, New Jersey.
The ceremony is not being described as a funeral, but a “home going” service. The service invite read:
“With heartfelt gratitude, the Houston Family requests the honor of your presence at the home going service for Whitney Elizabeth Houston."
The affair is an exclusive one, with Aretha Franklin scheduled to perform, as well as Stevie Wonder, and Whitney’s ‘The Bodyguard’ costar Kevin Costner is expected to give a speech honoring his friend.
While the service is invite-only, the family is allowing Whitney’s fans to watch the service stream live. You can view the ceremony live on TMZ:
Tomorrow, Whitney’s body will be laid to rest in Westfield’s New Jersey Fairview Cemetery. Whitney will be laid to rest next to her father, John Russell Houston.
