UPDATE 9:38PM - TMZ is reporting that Whitney Houston was found dead in the bathtub of her hotel room.
Singing legend Whitney Houston tragically passed away today at the age of 48. Her on-again off-again beau Ray J found her body.
Whitney's rep confirmed to the Associated Press that she passed away on Saturday afternoon, but wouldn't give further details as to what caused her death. We know that she passed away at the Beverly Hilton hotel. Paramedics performed CPR but it did not work and she was pronounced dead at 3:55 PM. A police crime lab vehicle was seen outside the hotel just moments ago, according to TMZ. Hollyscoop sources say she was in her room getting ready for the Clive Davis party. The Clive Davis party has since been canceled.
"I can confirm that Whitney Houston was pronounced dead at 3:55 p.m. at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. We received a call at 3:43 p.m. from hotel security and Beverly Hills Fire and police responded minutes later," Beverly Hills Police Lieutenant Mark Rosen tells PEOPLE. "It's unclear who notified hotel staff because she has quite an entourage here at the hotel. We attempted to resuscitate her, to no avail."
As to whether there was any evidence of drugs or foul play, Rosen responded: "We don't know yet, her death is under investigation."
Her ex husband Bobby Brown is said to be "hysterical" since learning the news. He's set to perform at a concert in Mississippi and so far, he's going to go on as scheduled.
Earlier this week Whitney was seen out partying at Kelly Price & Friends Unplugged: For The Love Of R&B Grammy Party at Tru Hollywood, where she also performed. Afterward, she emerged from the club, with her hair matted and in a mess, getting aggressive with photographers. A bodyguard helped prop her up. She also had what is believed to be blood dripping down her leg and scratches on her wrist.
Whitney has battled her drug and alcohol addiction for years, which may be the reason people are speculating she passed away from a drug overdose.
"The biggest devil is me. I'm either my best friend or my worst enemy," Houston told ABC's Diane Sawyer in an infamous 2002 interview with then-husband Brown by her side. This was the infamous "crack is whack" interview.
At her peak in the 1980s and '90s, Whitney was the golden girl of the music industry and one of the world's best-selling artists. She sold over 200 million albums worldwide.
Among her hits were "How Will I Know," "Saving All My Love for You" and "I Will Always Love You." She won multiple Grammys including album and record of the year.
Her success carried her beyond music to movies, where she starred in hits like "The Bodyguard" and "Waiting to Exhale."
She leaves behind her daughter, Bobbi Kristina, her only child from ex-husband Bobby Brown. They were married from 1992-2007.
