Oh good, I was worried that she had come back down to Earth.
On a Delta Airlines flight from Atlanta, Georgia Wednesday afternoon, Whitney Houston reportedly threw a fit after refusing to put her seatbelt on.
According to TMZ, the 47 year-old singer, who has a history of drug abuse, "got diva" with a flight attendant. The flight attendant told Houston to buckle up before the plane took off, and Houston refused.
The singer reportedly missed a flight earlier that day. The crew member told Whitney that if she didn’t buckle up, she'd get kicked off the plane. So then, she made one of the flight attendants fasten the seatbelt for her, and then the plane was cleared for takeoff.
A source close to the star said:
"Whitney overreacted a little bit after missing an earlier flight but she's still 100 per cent sober and was on the way to Detroit for her first day of shooting a new movie."
So it sounds like this was just typical outrageous celebrity behavior. I really don’t get why celebs freak out so much on planes. Is it really that hard to sit down and put a seatbelt on? You're bolting 600 miles per hour across the sky, maybe try following a safety precaution or two.
This is reminiscent of Justin Bieber's May airplane debacle. During a Qantas flight to Melbourne, Bieber got out of his seat while the plane taxied before take-off. Bieber refused to get back in his seat and a flight attendant said that he "had been acting like a child and would therefore be treated like one." Which I'm guessing meant that the pilot threatened to turn the plane around if he didn’t behave like a big boy.
Seemingly down-to-earth Josh Duhamel also had a little airplane incident. He caused a massive flight delay in 2010 because he refused to turn off his BlackBerry. According to passengers, a flight attendant asked him to turn it off multiple times, and Duhamel responded by "taunting the attendant," was "very rude", and even laughed at her. The plane had to be turned back around and two officers escorted him off. Pick your battles, Josh. BBM isn't worth it. Duhamel says of his tantrum: "It was not my favorite moment."
So let's hope Whitney was just pulling a Bieber or a Duhamel and not tweaking or something. In 2009, Whitney admitted to Oprah that she was a cocaine addict. We were all shocked. I could hardly contain my surprise. Houston told Oprah that she and ex-husband Bobby Brown's drug use got out of control after she starred in The Bodyguard back in 1992.
"Me and Bobby were lacing our marijuana with base. We would buy a kilo. We were not pipe smoking. You roll it up and you smoke it in your weed. It's almost like heroin cocaine speedballs but you level it off with marijuana."
Why do I feel like I'm watching an episode of Breaking Bad?
Back in May, Houston voluntarily entered an out-patient rehab program.
