Indie star-turned-Golden Globe nominee Zooey Deschanel is having one heck of a year, but life hasn’t always been peachy for Zooey. The actress says she has a major fear of bullies, stemming back to her school days.

“Girls spit in my face,” Zooey said. “People were so mean to me, I’d cry every day.”

Sad, but she's certainly not alone. Plenty of A-listers were picked on in their younger years, but those days are long behind them. Here are 10 celebs who were bullied as kids.

Chris Colfer The Glee star says he was “teased everyday from elementary school until high school.” But Chris learned from his experiences.

“It really taught me to be quick on my feet. Some of my witty comebacks are legendary.”

Demi Lovao: Demi told Hollscoop: “I actually left school when i was 12 years old; I started home schooling. It was too much for me dealing with the cattiness of the clickie girls and things like that.”

Kristen Stewart: She has a reputation for being aloof, but it might be a defense mechanism. Stewart said she was “glad to leave school.”

“I couldn’t relate to kids my own age. They are mean and don’t give you any chance,” Stewart said.

Christian Bale Batman was bullied?! Yep, Christian Bale said he was a “victim of bullying and had other kids kicking and punching me every day.” Did they yell at you for putting up lights, too?

Lady Gaga: Gaga has said on numerous occasions that she “didn’t fit in at high school,” revealing that childhood bullies once stuffed her in a trash can.

Rosario Dawson: “One of my worst memories is getting all dressed up for a school activity and having the girls pick on me because I was flat chested,” Rosario said. “I was very much a tomboy for a long time.”

Kate Winslet: Winslet says because she was full figured, childhood bullies called her “blubber.”

“I was the girl that people would always say, 'Ah, it's such a shame, because you've got such a pretty face.'”

Robert Pattinson: “I got beaten up by a lot of people when I was younger,” Robert said. “I was a bit of an idiot, but I always thought the assaults were unprovoked.”

Jessica Alba: Despite being an actress, Jessica alba says she was shy and awkward as a kid. “I was bullied so badly my dad used to have to walk me into school so I didn’t get attacked.”

Victoria Beckham: They say the best revenge is living well, and David Beckham's wife is a true testament to that. “People would push me around, say they were going to beat me up after school, chase me," Victoria said. "It was miserable, my whole schooling, miserable.”
