Oh, and I thought she was just being boho chic.
Vanessa Hudgens lopped her long locks off for her upcoming role in Gimme Shelter, and that's enough to traumatize most women, but that wasn't the least of her sacrifices for her role.
Vanessa apparently spent a couple of weeks in a homeless shelter, as she plays a homeless pregnant teen in the flick, which will be released at some point in 2012.
"I actually went and stayed in a shelter for two weeks before I started filming," the actress said, adding: "I lived there with all the girls, with all the kids, so I think that it's really interesting because you find so much more about yourself."
The main thing you will find out about yourself is, you hate living in a homeless shelter.
"I actually cut my own hair for this movie. I did that to myself, yes I did," Vanessa said. She also added that she and costar Rosario Dawson “both looked so messed up in this movie.”
Dawson plays Hudgens' meth head mom in the movie.
"[The lighter films] are definitely the projects that come along a lot easier. But I feel like doing such different things [and] I am not afraid to go the extra mile and dive into a character," Vanessa told The Huffington Post. "I think word is starting to get out there. The parts that I've been doing recently are completely different, and I've been given the opportunity to do them, so I am very thankful."
