Tyler Perry’s mother Willie Maxine Perry has passed away at the age of 64.
The producer announced the sad news on his website yesterday, writing, "Willie Maxine Perry. February 12, 1945 to December 8, 2009. Thank you for all your prayers.”
Although there are no details that have surfaced regarding her death, Willie is the person who inspired Perry’s most popular character in his movies, Madea.
Tyler credited his mother, a preschool teacher in New Orleans, as the inspiration for the character. He recently opened up about his troubled childhood, including how his mother tried and failed to leave his abusive father.
It’s so sad to hear about her passing at a young age, but at least Tyler has a positive and humorous way to remember his mother by. Fans of Tyler Perry will have a newfound respect for Madea now!
