It’s the second fire to break out at the comedy headquarters in the past four months.
Following news of a powerful blaze that broke out on the lot earlier this year, Tyler Perry Studios has caught fire once again. Fortunately, today’s incident has proven less damaging than its precursor.
Hollyscoop spoke with the Atlanta Fire Department’s Captain Mairan McDaniel for the scoop.
"The fire this morning at Tyler Perry Studios...originated on the roof,” he said.
McDaniel confirms reports that the blaze could be contained to the roof and that no structural damage was caused in the incident. The cause of the blaze is currently unclear.
“Workers on the roof were doing repairs when the fire started,” McDainel said. “It is under investigation as to what caused the fire.”
Firefighters responded to the scene at 10:56 a.m. and by noon, the blaze was under control. Only one alarm went off during the incident and no other buildings were damaged as a result.
“The lot is open now,” added McDaniel, indicating that Tyler Perry Productions is back open for business.
A bigger tragedy struck the facility on May 1 of this year, leaving severe harm on the 30-acre complex, including water damage on the interior. No word yet on whether today’s incident involved the same building.
The facility opened in 2008. The lots has house sets, sound stages and a 400-seat theater to accommodate the productions of Tyler Perry’s business.
