Tyler Perry has opened up about his horrific childhood telling fans he was beaten and molested as a child.
Perry had kept quiet about his troubled past, until now. He wrote on his
blog, "I'm tired of holding this in. I don't know what to do with it anymore, so, I've decided to give some of it away."
"Turning 40 is such a blessing. Especially because as I child I always thought I would die before I grew up," he said. He confessed that he recently watch a movie called
Precious, based on the novel
Push by Sapphire.
And during the movie, he "watched her mother be unusually cruel to her and I realized at that moment that a large part of my childhood had just played out before my eyes. It hit me so hard, I sat there in tears realizing that somehow, by the grace of God, I made it through. My tears were tears of joy, being thankful that I made it."
Perry recalls being beaten by his drunken father over his love of reading and writing. He claims he was told, "You f**king jackass! You got book sense but you ain't got no mothaf**ken common sense (sic)! You ain't s**t and ain't never gonna be sh*t!"
Perry adds: "I heard this every day of my childhood. He got the vacuum cleaner extension cord and trapped me in a room and beat me until the skin was coming off my back. To this day, I don't know what would make a person do something like that to a child."
"He would beat me mercilessly," Perry adds. "My mother was out one night, as she loved to play bingo, and my father came ome...mad at the world. He was drunk, as he was most of the time. He got the vacuum cleaner extension cord and trapped me in a room and beat me until the skin was coming off my back. "
And that wasn't the only time he was badly beaten either. It's incredible to think about the horrendous things that happened to him as a child and how he managed to overcome them and become one of the most successful filmmakers of our time.
