It's the day Twi-hards have been waiting for. In fact, some of them have been camping out since last week. It's finally here--the hot, headboard-smashing premiere of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn—Part 1.
Hollyscoop will be streaming live from the event, downtown at Los Angeles' Nokia Theater, where fans have been setting up camp to show their devotion to the series.
Twilight author Stephanie Meyer said:
"There's not much I would sleep out on the street for. These people are pretty hardcore. The fact that even one person camps out for this is unbelievable to me."
One person? Try 1,400. Yup, nearly two thousand Twi-hards have been waiting patiently, some of them for five days, to see Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner walk the red carpet.
"I heard the stories about these kids," Meyer said. "And it always sounds so amazing. So I decided I had to get into town for this."
Meyer showed up ahead of the red carpet for the first time, handing out 600 pre-autographed copies of Breaking Dawn.
So who are "these kids", exactly? Well, there's 26 year-old Eloisa Aguayo, who traveled to the premiere from San Diego. "It's grown from something so small into something so huge," Eloisa says. "These people are like my family," she says of her fellow fans. "No one even argues."
And if you thought San Diego was a long trip, try New Zealand. Jay Tewake, 21, spent $1,200 to fly 10,000 to the premiere. "It's definitely well worth it," Tewake says. "If just to see everyone enjoying themselves."
Summit Entertainment, the production studio behind the movies, oversees these gatherings. And it's not just sitting on the sidewalk waiting around. Well, okay, there's probably a lot of that, but there's also live concerts and a different Twilight film playing on a giant screen each night. Not to mention, they'll be front-and-center for Monday night's event.
Last week, Robert Pattinson commented on the festivities:
"Everyone should experience thousands of people screaming at you at the same time at least once. I try to lock down into this alter ego, where I just stay calm under any circumstances. It's an incredible experience."
The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn—Part 1 will hit theaters officially on Friday, November 18. The second part of the film will be released in theaters November 2012.
