Yesterday, Twihard fandom became deadly.
A 53-year-old “Twilight” fan, Gisela G, died yesterday when she was trying to secure her place in line in anticipation of the Breaking Dawn: Part 2 celebrity panel at Comic-Con later this week.
“I’m so sorry to hear the devastating news about Gisela G,” tweeted “Twilight” star Ashley Greene, “My thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends.”
Nikki Reed also took to Twitter to write, “This is horrible. So sad. I’m speechless.”
The studio behind the film released this statement late last night, “Lionsgate, Summit and the entire 'Twilight' community are saddened by the death of a Comic-Con fan today due to a traffic accident during the hours leading up to this year's convention in San Diego. Our thoughts and condolences go out to the victim's family and friends. She will be respectfully remembered this Thursday in Hall H."
I believe they are referring to the online petition that was created by other Twilight fans asking for a moment of silence for the deceased fan.
The woman died Tuesday when she was walking through a crosswalk. She tried to run across the street toward the convention center, tripped and was struck by an oncoming Subaru Outback who didn’t see her in time.
Gisela was rushed by ambulance to a hospital where she passed away.
Other Twilight fans at the convention said the only reason she was rushing was to keep her place in line.
“It is with tremendous sadness that we offer our heartfelt condolences,” says Comic-Con spokesman David Glanzer, “Our sincere thoughts and prayers go out to all those involved in this tragic incident.”
Gisela has attended Comic-Con in years past and in 2010 even managed to nab a photo with Robert Pattinson.
