The third Twilight sequel Eclipse finally has an official director, and it’s not Drew Barrymore. The Twilight fansite called Twilighters.org posted a statement on their site today saying, “Drew Barrymore will not be directing the third installment of Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight Series… Due to the ‘New Moon’ post-production schedule for director Chris Weitz, his brother and co-owner of Depth of Field Productions - Paul Weitz - will be directing ‘Eclipse.’”
Keeping it in the family! He’s got a lot more experience in being behind the camera. He’s produced over ten films, and has directed seven, including About A Boy and American Dreamz.
Twilighters.org isn’t the only site reporting the news. Summit Entertainment couldn’t be reached for comment, but rumor has it Paul will direct Eclipse and Chris will produce it, and then their roles will be flip-flopped for Breaking Dawn.
This would be a smart idea if they want to keep pumping these movies out as fast as possible. Eclipse already has a tentative Summer 2010 release, and you know Breaking Dawn is probably not too far behind it!
