Weeds @ 10pm
Showtime is where it's at tonight!! The pot-comedy comes out smoking in its fourth-season opener as Nancy, on the lam after torching her house in Agrestic, hightails it south with her sons and brother-in-law Andy to a seaside town on the Mexican border. The new plan is to crash with her late husband's grandmother, whom they find on her deathbed. Nancy does, however, get to reacquaint herself (and renew old hostilities) with her loser of a father-in-law (played with rumpled irascibility by Albert Brooks).
Secret Diary of a Call Girl @ 10:30pm
Secretary by day and call girl by night, sounds just like my type of show! This steamy but not overcooked British-TV import details the sexcapades of a pricey London escort (Billie Piper) as she juggles her private life and her professional one, and offers a look at the intricacies and intimacies of her calling. "I love sex," admits Belle, "and I love money," so the job is a perfect blend. In the opener, she entertains a middle-aged man with a farm fetish and, later, a handsome young lad who isn't quite satisfied with what he ordered.
The Middleman @ 8pm
The comic-book series comes to life — or more accurately, comes to the small screen — in a new series that has a hero, a sidekick and some freaky, humorous bad guys. Struggling artist Wendy Watson first encounters the Middleman when he shows up to fight a monster at her temp job. Before long, she finds herself working for this straitlaced crimefighter, battling otherworldly evil by his side. Her first case involves both the Mob and talking gorillas. It's all in a day's work in a series that manages to deftly balance action and comedy.
The Bachelorette: Deanna Tells All @ 8pm
DeAnna has more swooning and pruning to do tonight, but first she takes a step back and sums up the contest so far. What, for instance, was behind last week's blowup at the Outhouse and the Hollywood Hills twin-killing (RIP Fred and Robert) that followed? The six would-be Mr. Rights still standing also weigh in during the proceedings. And, perhaps for inspiration, first Bachelorette Trista Rehn and the guy she chose (and is still married to), Ryan Sutter, show up with their new baby boy in tow. Then at 9 pm/ET, it's on to Palm Springs for the pruning, and DeAnna had better have extra-sharp shears because two guys must go. For the other four, it's hometown dates next week.
