Isaiah Washington Speaks Out

TV

Isaiah Washington has spoken out for the first time since he got fired from the hit show, Grey's Anatomy.

"I'm saddened by the outcome," Washington tells Entertainment Weekly. "I did everything that the producers and the network asked me to do. I came back under great duress and stress, and thought I was doing the job I was hired to do."

Last week he learned that he will not return to the show for season four and he obviously was a bit upset releasing a statement through his publicist saying: "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it any more."

"[Grey's creator] Shonda Rhimes called me on Thursday of last week and told me that I would not be returning to the show," Washington says. "Just like she personally called me and invited me to the show. It was full circle."

Washington also admitted that he hasn’t gotten any love from any of his castmates. "Everyone is still on vacation. I don't expect to hear from my castmates. I did talk to Chandra Wilson and I got a text message from Kate Walsh. Everyone's doing their own thing."

Do you guys think they did the right thing letting him go? Shouldn't they have just fired him when all the drama went down?

They may have needed him to finish out the season. You're pretty much the network's bitch on a show like that. He should have kept his damn mouth shut BOTH times he opened his trap. You know what happens when you f*ck with a popular show in Hollywood - they squeeze what they need out of you, then throw you away. Tough shit.

I don't think he should have been fired, period. Ok, so what he said was wrong, especially in his position being in the public eye's so much. But still - he apologized, people came to terms with it, he made an effort to right his wrongs. What more do people want? Is he to be tossed down the gutter for ever because of it? That's nonsense.

The network and the producers used him to wrap up a story line and bring a relationship to an end. He was used.

if they didn't want him around, then they should had fired him when it all went down, not many months later. To me, that is a slap in the face, like teasing a child with candy then not even giving it to them.

Another classic example of even if you apologize for a stupid comment (which you shouldn't have to do in some cases, it should be just taken as that-a stupid comment), you get pressure from certain "rights" groups out there whatever it may be to get fired. Used to be all they demanded was the sensitivity reprogramming training sessions, now they are outright making companies fire people. And they have the nerve to say conservatives are the ones eroding "free speech?"

I am gay and I dont think he shouldn have been fired. He was used. He apologized and it was accepted. Even though the slur wasnt made in public! He was doing a great job on the show. Alot of us watched it because of his story line and Grey's. I think ABC is making a mistake.

I am very disappointed that I.Washington was fired, and I will not watch the show any longer. The remark he made was stupid and all this political correctiveness is getting out of control. PC should not be causing people to lose their job. I or you can get in an augument with someone and you may call them a name but that doesn't mean you are a hater of a certain group of people. It wasn't said on national tv, and after he apologized -.. it should of been enough. He is a good actor and that's all their is at the end of the day.

Bad Discission
I am outraged, the show will not be the same, okay he made a comment that wasn't nice, but is this not a free country freedom of speech, he has the right to speak what he feels, maybe it wasn't nice, but there are bigger problems and issues going on, Washington isn't the 1st person to make a comment and won't be the last, I'm sorry you made a wrong discission and the show will not be the same.

I am very disappointed in ABC's decision to not renew Washington's contract. GA is an ensemble cast with well defined/developed characters that many viewers respond positively to. It will not be the same without the precision of the Preston Burke character. This also eliminates any possibility of having Diahann Carroll and Richard Roundtree return as his parents, something I was looking forward to. I think that it was a bad decision. While the cast talked a lot about being a family, they clearly are just co-workers. In a family you forgive. Very disappointing ABC.

Sure, we're a country of free speech however, those that we elevate to the level of national stars have a responsibility to demostrate the highest standards of behavior. After all, we all know that role models have a far greater impact on our young people than anyone else and Isaiah is clearly a role model. He needs to move on, believe me there is other talent out there. And, first and foremost Hollywood is business and it's wise that they take their educational impact seriously especially if actors are hurtful to other cultural elements of our society. The apology is fine but many are not impressed after racial slurs, bigoted remarks and profanities are shouted by a national or international star. It's simply not acceptable -- apology or not. He needs to pack his bags and move on. Shonda is correct and so is the rest of ABC. For him -- it's TOUGH shit and guess what -- he created it!

I'm very disappointed by ABC's decision to fire Isiah Washington. It will be difficult for me to continue to watch what was the best show on television. While I believe Mr. Washington deserved to be reprimanded I thought it was honorable for him to really try to atone for the pain he caused. It really hurts to see this situation ultimately lead to the ruin of his character and potentially his career. The gaping whole that he leaves in the very fabric of Grey's Anatomy design will put the show on a difficult road to recovery.
