House has just been named the most popular show in the entire world! The one-hour drama starring
Hugh Laurie as the unconventional Dr. Gregory House, has become the most-watched fictional show on television.
Eurodata TV Worldwide conducted the study, showing that the show brought in over 81.8 million viewers last year. That was far more than the 2007 and 2006 winners in the same TV drama category, CSI: Las Vegas and CSI: Miami.
The agency bases its figures on data collected in 66 countries from Austria to Georgia to Norway to the United States that represent a potential audience of 1.6 billion television watchers.
In the comedy category,
Desperate Housewives won for the second year in a row, beating Monk and Ugly Betty with 65.3 million viewers worldwide in 2008. The Bold and the Beautiful was the most popular soap for the second consecutive year with 24.5 million viewers.
Notice how all of the shows that won were American! And people say TV is going down the tube!
