Critics Slam Conan O'Brien's Debut

Conan O'Brien
Conan O'Brien officially took over for Jay Leno last night, but he may need a bit more practice before he calls himself the new king of late night.

Critics didn’t exactly love Conan’s debut last night, saying he didn’t have much of a rapport with his audience. Check out what some critics are saying:

Randee Dawn of The Hollywood Reporter: "After one show, let's say he's a work in progress. O’Brien commanded the stage, but seemed more comfortable laughing it up with erstwhile sidekick-turned-announcer Andy Richter than in interacting with his 380 audience members."

New York Post TV critic Linda Stasi: “O'Brien's opening monologue mostly consisted of sketch upon sketch, most of which were at times, painfully unfunny."

David Hinckley of New York's Daily News: "He's from the world of sketch comedy, not monologues, and he sticks with an idea as long as he feels something funny could happen."

USA Today's Robert Bianco: "Overall, the show wasn't O'Brien at his funniest, but it was funny enough to get by."

Not the best reaction to his opening night! Did you tune into Conan’s first show? What did you think? Let us know in the comments!
