Michael Richards to Apologize on Letterman

November 21, 2006

In an interview to be broadcast tonight (Monday night) comedian Michael Richards will offer a formal apology for the racial comments he made this weekend during a stand-up routine at a Los Angeles comedy club.

During his stand up routine at Laugh Factory in LA, Richards said, "Fifty years ago we'd have you upside down with a f--king fork up your ass," Richards screamed. "You can talk, you can talk, you're brave now motherf--ker. Throw his ass out. He's a n--ger! He's a n--ger! He's a ni--ger! A n--ger, look, there's a n--ger!"

David Letterman: "Why don't you explain exactly what happened for the folks who may not know."

Michael Richards: "I lost my temper on stage. I was at a comedy club trying to do my act and I got heckled and I took it badly and went into a rage and said some pretty nasty things to some Afro-Americans, a lot of trash talk, and uh..."

Letterman: "And you were actually being heckled or were they just talking and disturbing the act?"

Richards: "That was going on too."

Richard also said, "I went back onstage that night and I apologized to quite a few people," Richards told Letterman. "I didn't get to talk to everyone. They left. And they went to the press as they should have."

The Laugh Factory has banned Richards and promised to post a warning to all comedians to avoid offensive language.

What Mel said was bad but not as bad as this. Mel was drunk also. This guy did say something about if this was 50 years ago you'd be hanging from a tree with a pitchfork up you ass for talking to a white guy like this. That is really BAD. Much worse then Mel's drunken tirade. And Mel has also not been forgiven yet.

WE ALL say stupid racial stuff. M.R. was out of line, but the fact of the matter is that there is A LOT of underlying racism in the US. Forgive, move on, and try to build bridges between different ethnicities. I feel sorry for the guy. I feel sorry for those offended b/c they will probably never forgive. But Mel Gibson was forgiven-why? Gibson's words were 10x worse!!

Well, Richard thanks for your version of an apology. I really hope you enjoy the rest of your life out of the hollywood spotlight cause I seriously doubt you'll work in show buisness again. Thanks for bringing your true feelings to the serface, cause if you didn't I may of continued likeing your work.
