Thomas Williams "Tom" Hiddleston was born on February 9, 1981, in Westminster, London, to former stage manager Diana Patricia and scientist James Norman Hiddleston.
During the time Tom was enrolled at the boarding school Eton College and his parents were getting divorced, he discovered acting in order to escape his family troubles and later landed his first on-screen role in the TV film The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby (2001) followed by the TV history drama film Conspiracy (2001), the TV series Armadillo (2001) and the TV movie The Gathering Storm (2002).
After graduating from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in 2005, Tom co-starred alongside his younger sister Emma Hiddleston in the drama Unrelated (2007) prior to playing "Chris Vaughan" in the TV series Casualty (2007) and "Bill Hazkedine" in the TV series Suburban Shootout (2007 - 07). He also starred in the TV movie Miss Austen Regrets (2008) and BBC's detective mystery series Wallander (2008 - 10).
Tom finally got his big-break in 2011, when he was cast as the villain in the fantasy film Thor alongside Anthony Hopkins, Nathalie Portman and Chris Hemsworth. He went on to gain more attention for his acting chops with praised performances in the romance comedy Midnight in Paris (2011) with Owen Wilson and the drama The Deep Blue Sea (2011) opposite Rachel Weisz.
The up and coming actor finished out the year with an appearance in the war drama War Horse (2011) and started 2012 off with his reprised role in The Avengers (2012) alongside a star-studded cast that included, Robert Downey Jr. and Scarlett Johansson. In addition, Tom starred in the mini-series The Hollow Crown (2012) and the TV series Robot Chicken (2012).
Tom's most recent projects include, the drama Only Lovers Left Alive (2013) opposite Tilda Swinton, the drama London Project (2013), Thor: The Dark World (2013) alongside Natalie Portman and Chris Hemsworth, and the crime thriller Black Wings Has My Angel (2013) with Elijah Wood and Anna Paquin.
