Don’t mess with Tom Cruise, kids. He will sue the common sense right out of you. (Does that even make sense?)
Following reports initially published by Life & Style and In Touch magazines that Tom Cruise has left his daughter, Suri, in the dust, Cruise is suing the gossip sources for a hefty fee.
The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that the actor has filed a lawsuit, suing Life & Style for $50 million.
According to documents published by TMZ, In Touch magazine is also involved in the suit.
Bert Fields – Tom’s lawyer – released a statement, detailing the legal action and bashing the mags for their false claims.
"Tom is a caring father who dearly loves Suri,” Fields said. “She's a vital part of his life and always will be. To say he has 'abandoned' her is a vicious lie. To say it in lurid headlines with a tearful picture of Suri is reprehensible."
According to Fields, Tom isn’t accustomed to throwing his Mission Impossible guns around at gossip outlets, but because of endless headlines surrounding his divorce from Katie Holmes he’s had to step up his game.
"When these sleaze peddlers try to make money with disgusting lies about his relationship with his child, you bet he's going to sue," said Fields.
But just in case you were under the assumption that Life & Style and In Touch were reliable sources – which, we’re not sure why you would be – the lawyer has a few more choice words...
“These serial defamers are foreign owned companies with their global headquarters in Hamburg,” he said. “They take money from unsuspecting Americans by selling their malicious garbage. Having to pay a libel judgment may slow them down."
As Hollyscoop reported earlier this year, Tom has denied the abandonment claims all along, saying that his absence from Suri’s life this summer was related to his part in Oblivion, which required him to shoot in Iceland.
We've reached out to Life & Style magazine who refused to comment on the suit.
