Tom Cruise Responds to Vanity Fair Article

It’s an ultimate battle royale: actor vs. the media…

Tom Cruise’s newest task is defending his name… Unfortunately, after Vanity Fair’s scandalous issue revealing his girlfriend auditioning, that mission – like his movies – could prove to be impossible…

The actor’s rep has spoken up, telling Hollyscoop that the allegations presented in the magazine were completely fabricated. Not only that, but the article wasn’t even a good read…

“Vanity Fair’s story is essentially a rehash of tired old lies previously run in the supermarket tabloids, quoting the same bogus ‘sources,’” the rep said. “It’s long, boring and false.”

On the other side of the fence, the writer of the article, Maureen Orth, has since spoken up too, defending her story.

Orth told NBC’s Matt Lauer on a Wednesday episode of the “Today” show that there was a reason she kept the names of her sources off the record.

“There's very few people who were willing to talk," Orth said. “Scientology does not know everybody I talked to.”

As Hollyscoop previously reported, the writer’s article made the claim that Scientology leaders arranged for the actor to marry actress Nazain Boniadi and that – prior to meeting Katie – the church auditioned girlfriends for the actor to date.

The article even went on to claim that Scientology forced Boniadi to dig ditches and clean bathrooms as punishment…

Scientology has since written off the story as “Hogwash.” But, then again, this isn’t Star magazine we’re talking about here… It’s Vanity Fair, a respected publication with generally truthful stories…

The story has resulted in quite a scandal and a lot of heat for Orth, hence the appearance on “Today.”

It’s all weird enough to send shivers down your spine and make your palms sweat.
