In the press, Tom Cruise often gets the short end of the stick—at least when it comes to good parenting.
But, in a new statement, Tom’s lawyer, Bert Fields, is setting the record straight. According to the actor’s courtroom commando, Tom is in direct communication with his mini fashionista daughter Suri every single day.
“It's just the opposite of what they said in the magazine,” Fields told E! News on the claims that tabloids In Touch and Life & Style had made about how he had “abandoned” Suri following his divorce with Katie Holmes.
Fields added, “They are together all the time. He is a very caring father and that is at the heart of this lawsuit.”
As we previously reported, Cruise is suing Bauer publications, which publishes the gossip mags, for the whopping fine of $50 million, with Fields calling them “serial defamers.”
When news of the suit first broke, Fields released a statement, claiming “Tom is a caring father who dearly loves Suri.”
The statement added: “She's [Suri’s] a vital part of his life and always will be. To say he has 'abandoned' her is a vicious lie. To say it in lurid headlines with a tearful picture of Suri is reprehensible."
An initial meet-and-greet for the trial took place on Thursday. The next hearing is currently scheduled for April 29.
