Tina Fey has just been named the Entertainer of the Year by the Associated Press. We couldn’t think of a better person who deserves it more!
The AP is comprised of broadcast producers and newspaper editors all over the country, and they decided Fey was the performer who had the greatest impact on culture and entertainment in 2008.
Tina beat out Robert Downey Jr. for the honors, and we think they’re in completely different leagues. Iron Man was amazing, we’ll agree. But Tina’s name is now almost synonymous with Sarah Palin. She helped in shaping the way the entire country viewed the Presidential election with her spot-on Palin impressions.
Coming in third is the late Heath Ledger. His performance in The Dark Knight wowed audience and may very well win him a posthumous Oscar or Golden Globe. But Tina took it all this year.
Sharon Eberson, entertainment editor of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, says, "Tina Fey is such an obvious choice. She gave us funny when we really needed it and, in a year when women in politics were making huge strides, Fey stood out in the world of entertainment."
Scott Shive, assistant features editor at the Lexington Herald-Leader, says, "She simultaneously entertained us with her wit and put a mirror up to the nation during the election and made us think about what was going on. She is the epitome of the smart kid coming out on top for once."
Congratulations to Tina! We hope this is just the beginning of her long and successful career.
