Rapper T.I. has been sentenced to one year and one day in prison on Federal Weapons Charges and has until May '09 to report.
T.I., real name Clifford Harris pleaded guilty last March after he was arrested in 2007 for attempting to buy unregistered machine guns and silencers.
“Today I would like to say thank you to some, and apologize to all,” the rapper told U.S. District Judge Charles Pannell.
“Everything I learned was through trial and error,” Harris also told the judge. “I’ve learned lessons in my life to put in my music so people won’t make the same mistakes as I.”
He's already completed 1000 hours of community service, but will need to complete 470 additional hours, reports Access Hollywood.
“I think this has been a great experiment,” the judge said. “I hope this experience can lead to other experiments so others won’t make the same mistake at all. I congratulate you.”
T.I. has spoken out to young kids about the dangers of weapons, even participating in the MTV reality show, “Road to Redemption,” hoping to scare teens straight.
He has 30-60 days to report to prison, so we’ll keep you updated on when he plans on starting his sentence. Hopefully his fans will learn from his mistakes and steer clear of weapons.
