Jim Carrey Quits Three Stooges

Jim Carrey has surprisingly walked out on his role in the highly anticipated screen adaptation of The Three Stooges. For months we'd been hearing Carrey would take on the role on Curly, having gone through negotiations back in April.

Jim had even gone as far as packing on the pounds in order to better portray the chubby Curly, and girlfriend Jenny McCarty said fans were definitely going to be impressed. She said, "He's definitely practising the role of Curly... He's basically enjoying his desserts... He's going to gain 50 pounds to play Curly. I listen to him walking around doing Curly... People are gonna be blown away when they see him."

But, according to The Boston Globe, Peter Farrelly has confirmed Carrey is no longer involved in the project. And we hear Paul Giamatti is!

The Sideways star denied the rumors he was signing on to the film back in June, saying there had been no talks between himself and the Farrelly brothers.

However, The Globe alleges Giamatti has now been confirmed to fill the role intended for Sean Penn, who quit the film earlier this year, citing personal reasons.

So our question is, who will be the new Curly??

As Hollyscoop previously reported, The Three Stooges is being made into a feature film. But now we’ve gotten word on two actors attached to the film, and it may surprise you! Jim Carrey and Sean Penn are both signed on to star in the film. If they agree, that bumps the film up from about a C to an automatic A!

Sean Penn has reportedly signed onto play Larry, while Jim Carrey is negotiations to play Curly. Carrey is preparing to gain 40 pounds so he can play the role. And you’ll never guess who’s being courted for Moe. Benicio Del Toro! Quite a threesome! Sean Penn and Benicio wouldn’t be our first picks to do physical comedy, but the Farrelly brothers do know a thing or two about comedy. We did also hear a rumor that Johnny Depp was in talks for the role of Moe as well.

The Farrelly brothers will direct, and MGM is attached as well. The brothers feel that now is the best time for this movie to come out.

Peter Farrelly says, “When the economy started turning, we felt like the world could use a Stooges slapfest. Bobby and I haven’t done a real physical comedy in a while, and it’s the most exciting thing we could think of now, to have people go to the movie, see some great slapstick fun family humor.”

The movie is expected to start production in the fall, with a 2010 release.

Johnny Depp To Star In The Three Stooges

When we picture Johnny Depp in a film role, we think of him playing a hot pirate or villain. Not one of the three stooges! But that’s the word on the street! Johhny Depp is being courted for the role of Moe in a film adaptation of The Three Stooges.

But before you go laughing it off, this movie might be better than you think. The Farrelly Brothers are doing, who are the people that brought us classics like There’s Something About Mary and Dumb and Dumber. So this might be a movie worth seeing.

Plus, the Farrelly brothers want Sean Penn to play Larry. According to In Touch magazine, they’re still searching for their perfect Curly, but they’ve got a great start if Johnny and Sean both agree. We can totally see Johhny rocking the bowl cut!

Only problem we see here is scheduling conflicts. Johnny has three movies already in pre-production through 2011 So if they want him, they’d better act fast!
