At least it’s easy for him to get into character.
Thomas Jane, star of HBO’s drama, Hung, reveals his sordid past to the L.A. Times. Jane says he performed sexual acts with other dudes back in the day so he could pay his bills.
“As James Dean said, you’re going to have one arm tied behind your back if you don’t accept people’s sexual favors,” Jane says. They should totally put that quote next to his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
“When I was a kid out here in L.A., I was homeless. I didn't have any money and I was living in my car. I wasn't averse to going down to Santa Monica Boulevard and letting a guy buy me a sandwich. Know what I mean?"
Yeah, I think I do, and now I will never look at two guys eating together at a Quizno’s the same again.
Hung focuses on the lives of gigolos, so it’s oddly appropriate for Jane. He says that his hooking experience “blew the doors off my conventional upbringing.” Well, it definitely blew.
“You’re a lot more open to experimentation as a young man,” the actor said. “And for me, being a young artist and broke in Los Angeles, I was exploring my sexual identity.”
As far as the same-sex stuff goes, he has no regrets.
“Until you’ve tasted the food, you don’t know whether you’ll like it or not, as my mom always said.”
Thomas Jane’s first job was an unusual one. Here are some other celebs and their first jobs in Hollywood.
Eva Longoria: “I was an extra,” Eva told Hollyscoop. “I worked on Ally McBeal, I worked on this show called Marshall Law, I’ve worked on hundreds of shows as an extra.” She went from extra to highest paid woman on TV, raking in $13 million this year.
Jon Hamm: Mad Men star Jon Hamm told Hollyscoop: “My first job in Hollywood was a waiter. And a caterer. I worked a lot of events…it’s nice to not be doing that anymore.” In L.A., make sure not to piss off your waiters or baristas. Because any one of ‘em could be the next Jon Hamm. (Plus, you don’t want them to spit in your food)
Sylvester Stallone: His first role in Hollywood was in a porn. Must’ve been a hard gig.
Stallone starred in The Party at Kitty and Studs, a porno that only paid Stallone $200 for two days. But hey, at least he doesn’t ever have to worry about a sex tape scandal. That ship has sailed.
Jennifer Lopez: J.Lo was a “fly girl” on In Living Color back in the day. Twenty something years later, and she’s still dancing.
George Clooney: Clooney had a reoccurring role in the early days of Roseanne. Hot then, hot now.
