The Real World

Jersey Shore may be MTV’s biggest hit, but the network hasn’t forgotten their granddaddy of all reality shows—The Real World. The show is going into its 24th season, and it will reportedly take place in New Orleans.

Executive producer of the show Jon Murray said in a statement today, “We are delighted to be returning to New Orleans for the 24th season of ‘The Real World.’ Hurricane Katrina threw New Orleans for a punch, but the city is coming back and we’re hoping our cast members and the series can play a small role in the city’s rebirth.”

12 episodes of The Real World: New Orleans 2 will run on MTV, and will follow a group of young adults exploring the city trying to rebound after the huge natural disaster. The series is expected to premiere later this year. According to an MTV spokesperson, the cast won’t be revealed until closer to the season premiere.

It sounds like the city is just as excited as MTV to have the show shot there. New Orleans Office of Film & Video director Jennifer Day said, “New Orleans is pleased and grateful to welcome MTV’s ‘The Real World’ back to the city. Young people have played a pivotal role in the city’s recovery and we look forward to the cast members’ participation in our vibrant community.”

More drama to ensue, we’re sure!

Last week street-salsa Susie turned into roadkill when her trademark Latin sizzle fizzled, and the judges evidently found that Marquis' tricks weren't much of a treat, so they were the latest pair to get sent home last week. But the show goes on, and tonight the Top 16 once again perform as couples.

Baby Borrowers @ 9pm
Kids are always in a hurry to grow up, but they may want to savor their carefree youth a little longer after watching this new reality series. It isn't exactly playing house for five teen couples that live a lifetime in a few weeks by taking care of infants, toddlers, teens and finally senior citizens, all while maintaining jobs and a home. In the opener, the teens prepare for the arrival of their babies by wearing fake pregnancy bellies and attending prenatal classes, which isn't all that difficult. But when the infants are handed to them, that's a reality that hits the teens hard and they realize life isn't a game.

It's a good hair day for fans of this real-world competition show about hairdressers going head-to-head (literally). The Jaclyn Smith-hosted series' sophomore season kicks off tonight with 12 new contestants converging upon the studio salon. These TV neophytes are promptly blindsided in their very first hair dare: They must give super cuts to clients while wearing blindfolds. Then, after letting their hair down with some boozy bonding, our battling barbers reinterpret the hairdos of celebrities — cartoon celebrities, that is, making this quite the animated challenge.

Tonight, the roommates' careers are being put on the fast-track this week and Kim, Nick and Sarah begin internships at movie Web site and Brianna gets the chance to record a demo album.

Look out Brooklyn! A bunch of spoiled, jaded, loud-mouthed twenty-somethings are about to invade on your turf! MTV has announced that the 21st season of the show will be taped in Brooklyn, NY next year.

Creator Jon Murray says, "The Brooklyn season, like the Hollywood season, will focus on what people loved about The Real World when it launched in 1992 - genuine people, meaningful conflict and powerful stories."

As opposed to what this Hollywood season is all about—whorey, loser, wanna-be actors with too much rage. Can't wait for next season when things get "real" again!
