The Dark Knight

Surprise! Surprise! Eclipse made a killing at the box office over the weekend.

The movie made an estimated $121.4 million from Wednesday to Friday, reports distributor Summit Entertainment.

The six-day total brought in a whopping $198.9 million.

Although it did really well, it did not break the box office records. Spider-Man 2 earned $180 million in its first six days in 2004 on Independence Day.

The first installment of Twilight brought in $88 million and New Moon raked in $179 million in its first six days.

Judging by initial estimates, Eclipse would take the number 3 spot of highest six-day openers. The Dark Knight had brought in $222 million and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen made $215 million.

The bad news is that we still have to wait another two years for it. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Brothers has just decided it’s well worth it to get Christian Bale back into that bat suit. The sequel will fly into theaters on July 20th, 2012.

Cameron's producing partner Jon Landau said in a statement, "When some said to us, 'How is it going to feel to knock off 'Titanic'? I think our response was, 'It's about time those guys got knocked off their perch.’”

"Lightning is not supposed to strike twice. And it has. And it's a pinch-me moment when you sit there and you hear that we're going to break another record. It's beyond anything that we could have imagined," he said.

Aaron Eckhart’s character Harvey Dent/Two-Face appears to die at the end of The Dark Knight, but he still wants to be a part of the sequel. According to Contact Music, Eckhart is lobbying to get the character reprised for the sequel.

He’s trying to convince director Christopher Nolan to bring Two Face back from the dead. Eckhart says, "I think I've talked myself out of the job. I thought I'd died. But you know, America's grown up on soap operas and reinventing people so why doesn't Chris take that into consideration (when he's writing the script)?"

He adds, "If Chris asked me back, I would love to. Heath really was meant to come back as The Joker (for the next movie) as we all would want him to do so maybe this will be the way it is and be its own little thing."

We would love to see Harvey Dent come back for another installment, but it may anger hard core Batman fans if Nolan went off the original storyline. Do you think it’s a good idea to bring Two Face back?
Meow. The sultry Megan Fox has reportedly signed on to appear in the sequel to The Dark Knight as Catwoman.

The movie won't be released until 2011, but director Christopher Nolan is really excited about the latest addition to his star studded cast, reports the UK Sun.

Angelina Jolie was reportedly in talks for the role, but it ultimately went to Megan instead. Insiders say Christopher's first choice for the role was Cher, but Megan is more catlike away, so good call on that one.

Megan will be following in the footsteps of Michelle Pfeiffer and Halle Berry, who have both rocked the iconic leather catsuit in past films.

What do you think about Megan playing Catwoman? Can she pull it off?

UPDATE: Megan will not be playing Catwoman. "It's rumor. It's not true," said a studio rep. "There is no script. There is no project to be cast in."

Here’s some movie buzz we weren’t expecting! Rumor has it Miley Cyrus is being courted to play a role in the upcoming sequel to The Dark Knight.

Apparently Miley is being considered for the role of Batgirl, starring opposite Christian Bale! Talk about a step up from Hannah Montana! The Globe’s Loosch Lips column broke the news, saying Miley recently “stunned” producers at Warner Brothers in a full batsuit trying to pitch herself.

The insider says, “She was sort of hopping around the room and had even written some dialogue for herself. The problem is, some people aren’t really convinced Miley has the acting chops to pull it of.”

We smell bulls**t on this one. We think Miley is definitely ready to move on from her tween projects, but The Dark Knight franchise seems a little grown up for her. Plus, we highly doubt Miley’s mom, who is her manager, would allow her to show up to Warner Brothers in a batsuit!
Harry Potter has been crowned the new winner of the midnight showing! Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince came out in theaters last night at midnight, and managed to score $22.2 million, according to Warner Brothers.

That beats out The Dark Knight by nearly $4 million! Yesterday the studio had their doubts, saying, "It's hard to really tell where things are going.”

Those numbers clearly beat out the $18 million earned in midnight runs by Warners’ very own The Dark Knight and the $17 million earned by 20th Century Fox’s Star Wars: Episode III —Revenge of the Sith.

It’s pretty clear now! Potter is a hit! Did you go see the movie? Tell us what you think in the comments!
Bad news for Batman fans. You won’t be seeing the caped crusader anytime soon. The Dark Knight director Chris Nolan has confirmed that plans for the sequel are on hold as of now. And the reason for that is because he’s busy working on another project.

Fans will have to wait at least another two years for another Batman installment while Chris works on directing the futuristic film Inception. The film is described as "a contemporary sci-fi actioner set within the architecture of the mind." Nolan will be working on the project with partner Emma Thomas, who also worked with him on The Dark Knight.

Warner Bros Pictures Group President Jeff Robinov said: "Chris Nolan is a visionary filmmaker who continually raises the bar with each movie he makes. We are thrilled to be collaborating again with him and Emma on this exciting new motion picture."

So the question is, will Chris even be directing the next Batman movie? There have been some rumors that another director might take on the responsibility. Nolan has himself expressed some reservations about the pressure to match and exceed The Dark Knight's success, especially with the tendency in film franchises for the third movie to be of lesser quality.

But for now, we’d rather wait for Chris to finish Inception than to rush another Batman movie into theaters. He did such a great job with The Dark Knight, and we wouldn’t want to see another director come in and mess with the formula.

Last night was all about the Grammys here in LA, and the rest of the U.S. for that matter. But right across the pond in London, all of the focus was on the BAFTA Awards. And although the event isn’t held in tinsel town, it’s still a major one, and drew in all the A-listers.

We’re talking Brad and Angelina, Daniel Craig, Mickey Rourke, Penelope Cruz, and Robert Downey Jr., just to name a few. The BAFTAs honor people in the film industry just as same as all the others, but you might be surprised at who won the big categories.

Here’s the short list, and you can click here for a list of all the nominees and the winners in their category. How different do you think the Oscars will be as far as who wins?

Best Film: Slumdog Millionaire
Director: Danny Boyle, Slumdog Millionaire
Leading Actor: Mickey Rourke, The Wrestler
