Sunday marked a very special night in broadcast television… It was the finale episode of “The Bachelorette.” Which means one very important thing: We can all finally stop talking about “The Bachelorette.”
After weeks of dropping guys like flies, Emily Maynard was down to two: Jef Holm or Arie Luydendyk. It was highly hyped, highly dramatic, and it ended – finally – in a proposal.
Here’s the play-by-play of how it all went down. (SPOILER ALERT!)
Curacao, a scenic island in the Carribean Sea… Emily and her only daughter Ricki are joined by her parents. With Emily’s rocky past and a previous “Bachelor” attempt, the family is understandably a bit on the skeptical side, but they enter the episode with an open mind.
First up for some one-on-one time is Jef, who gets to meet Ricki for the first time. The trio spends a day at the pool, and their outing is so adorable, so sweet it makes my teeth hurt sequence.
Emily jumps to conclusions, telling Jef that he will make “the best dad and the best husband.” But those feelings seem to stick, because she later tells host Chris Harrison that she’s made up her mind.
When she goes to meet Arie for their date, he’s in for a bit of a surprise…
“I felt like it was going to be me and you, and I don’t know anymore,” she tells him.
Long story short, Emily dumps Arie and he’s bummed. He does thank him for sparing him the embarrassment at the ceremony the next day, however.
The next day Emily bubbles with excitement, goes to meet Jef, and tells him that he is her “soul mate.” (Yay!)
Jef gets down on one knee and she says… Wait for it… Yes!
And that’s about all you need to know for the water cooler today. Congratulations, you just got your ABC Sunday nights back!
