Filipinos Want Apology From Desperate Housewives

Teri Hatcher

If you watched the 'Desperate Housewives' season premiere you know exactly what we're about gonna talk about. If not pay attention!

The writer's of Desperate Housewives have pissed off the Philippine government and they are seeking an apology.

During the show, Teri Hatcher (Susan Mayer) used a racial slur against Filipino medics and they are requiring an apology according to the Philippine Daily Inquirer.

During a medical examination Susan Mayer asked, "Can I check those diplomas because I want to make sure that they're not from some med school in the Philippines."

Naturally, that comment pissed off some people.

Filipino consul in Los Angeles Mary Jo Bernardo Aragon was so pissed that she wrote a letter to ABC networks stating that their comment was not true because Filipino medical workers were in demand all over the world.

"The US recognizes the students of Philippine medical and nursing schools and in general, does not require additional schooling in the US for Filipino healthcare professionals," she added.

The funny thing is I watched the episode on Sunday and after hearing that comment, I instantly knew it would piss off a lot of people. Didn't the writers of the show have the common knowledge to figure it would tick people off? Either they didn't have the common knowledge or they just didn't care.

This show can be re-titled for better public veiwing..."American Illiterate and Desperate Housewives"... as mostly of the roles of these racist housewives were illiterately portrayed!!! Piss off

Who cares??! People get offended over anything. And I'm Filipino!
Posted by: Jenn on 10/03/2007 11:30 AM

Totally idiotic! I wonder who wrote the script?! Sounds like uneducated to me or probably a graduate of some idiotic university. What a piece of garbage!
Posted by: Ugh on 10/03/2007 11:30 AM

To: American "Illiterate" Housewife Because it is uncalled for and not even true. Demeaning to Philippino people whose in the medical field. Idiot!
Posted by: Jenn on 10/03/2007 11:34 AM

It's really weird that the line is uttered by Susan, who's supposed to be a very likeable character.

just want to inform the writer that the 1st US Admiral is a Filipina and a long time personal Physician of the former US President Bush Sr. what can you say about that???!!!!
Posted by: zanbi on 10/03/2007 05:39 PM

i'm sorry its not the 1st US Admiral but the !st FEMALE US ADMIRAL is a FILIPINA. She is also the PHYSICIAN of BUSH Sr.
Posted by: zanbi on 10/03/2007 05:45 PM

Next time Americans get confined in their hospitals and a Filipino nurse and doctor attends to them - they better think again. Because of this Desperate slur - Filipino nurses and doctors might just up and leave your judgemental overboastful country and leave your own to wipe your ugly asses.

This was a deliberate racial slur. It was demeaning to a population of highly educated, dedicated and caring professionals. It was intentional by Walt Disney and ABC. The liberals like Hillary really love this type of liberal culture bashing and race baiting! This is a crappy show and it just showed its true colors for what it is... a put down of wonderful people!
Posted by: Bob on 10/03/2007 08:59 PM

Is this a way some Americans uplift their spirits? Is it by crushing others and putting other people under? Why not do something good instead of rediculing other nations, help them if you think they are doing wrong

is the script writer of Desperate Housewives did go to college? where are his ethics in writing? duhh...

I used to be a big fan of Teri Hatcher, can't believe she did not even think about what she's going to say that it will insult a lot of Filipinos. Maybe she got something against Filipinos or she's just dumb and stupid.

Do we really have to take this seriously and be "offended" at what goes on in an American television show? We have more important things to worry about. Let the fat ass Americans have their laughs while their country goes down the drain.
Posted by: Manila on 10/04/2007 07:20 AM

Theres no need for any Filipino to be upset over this. It was said on a fictitious show by a fictional character. We are not like the Muslims, who are overly sensitive and get upset over everything.
Posted by: Manila on 10/04/2007 07:24 AM

Since Filipinos got the apology they were asking for, they must get over it. Now if you guys still mad about it,then just don't watch the show. question anyone still watching the show?

FICTIONAL OR NOT FICTIONAL, BUT THE DAMAGE WAS DONE. YOUR PROGRAM IS NON-SENSE UNEDUCATED, DESPERATE WHORES. NO EDUCATION IMPACT TO VIEWERS. YOU HORNY HOUSEWIVES.
Posted by: JOSE RIZAL on 10/05/2007 12:44 AM

We want the writers and Teri Hatcher to be out in the Desperate Horny Housewives program. They are very irresponsible, naive, nomadic, stupid animals. These words are what you deserve, DICK SUCKERS. This is a strong statement to ABC for tolerating intolerable acts.

HAHA oh my god who the hell would put that in a show? this show is crap anyway, who cares. i'm filipino and i think this is stupid. seriously...haha.
Posted by: macaroni on 10/05/2007 03:48 AM

For people who posted, "Who Cares?" Maybe you should rethink your position. All peoples of all races should care when they are attacked. If you don't, you'll be the brunt and target of endless attacks because YOU DON'T CARE! Protect your rights and stand up for it.

TERRI HATCHER IS NOTHIN BUT A DUMB WOMAN WHO THINKS NOTGING BUT SEX... IF SHE THINKS SHE IS SO GOOD.... THEN SHE SHOULD BE HER OWN DOCTOR AND DIAGNOSE HERSELF... I KNOW ITS JUST FICTION BUT COME ON? Posted by: CURSED SNAKE on 10/07/2007 08:49 PM

anyway, the show is really cheap and showcases sex.. nothin more nothin less... where is the moral and intelligence in that? just dont watch the show, else youd sharpen the dumbness factor...
Posted by: CURSED SNAKE on 10/07/2007 08:59 PM

Filipinos should just get over it and those making a big deal out of this are just plain silly. Firstly, the line in Desperate Housewives was not RACIST as is being claimed in the Filipino press. She did not say she wanted to make sure her doctor was not a Filipino. She said she wanted to make sure the medical diploma was not from a medical school in the Philippines and there’s a huge difference. She could just have easily said a medical school in the Caribbean. Or in Costa Rica. In each case, the line doesn’t imply that Caribbeans or Hispanics are stupid. But rather that the STANDARD OF EDUCATION in less developed countries is usually lower than in industrialized nations like the United States, and frankly my dear Filipinos, this is true of the Philippines. The prevalence of filipinas in the U.S. nursing industry has no bearing on this issue. Those are individuals who have studied and passed exams according to U.S. standards. A doctor’s medical license in the Philippines does not entitle the bearer to practice as a doctor in the U.S. This is what the line in Desperate Housewives meant. Again Filipinos, get over yourselves.

Does this mean I will get an apology from the muchkins from the Wizard of Oz becasue they offend me and caused me grief as a short kid growing up??? Seriosuly people need to GET OVER IT! This is ridiculous! What about BET calling white people crackers but if a white guy even says "this black dude" it a war!I love the typical American hypocricy!
Posted by: Tanya on 10/08/2007 11:25 AM

I have heard of the show but would never dream of spending a microsecond of my time watching a stupid show like that. These actors in America think they're smart when the truth is they're a bunch of stupid idiots. That anybody in the press would even ask any of them their opinion about any subject is beyond comprehension. But they do. So they give stupid opinions and stupid people watching them on TV think they're right. That's crazy and scary at the same time. Hopefully one day stupid people who watch stupid shows like Desperate Housewives would wake up and realize how stupid they had been and switch their viewing preferences to more educational and wholesome shows. Who knows maybe one day when people stop being stupid, homosexuality, crimes and other social diseases will be reduced and ultimately illiminated.

to cursed snake it is true that the standard of education of some schools in the philippines are quite behind compared to american schools. and im pretty sure it's the same with other 3rd world countries. however, when it comes to Filipino doctors and nurses in America or other "smarter" countries as Americans would think, im pretty sure that they have to undergo exams before getting their license abroad. fake diplomas and fake certificates from the philippines don't work abroad. they get busted no matter what. i know alot of filipino doctors who had to actually go back to uni for at least 2 years before getting their licenses. so, i think that the filipino med professionals abroad are capable and don't deserve to receive descrimination comments especially from a desperate useless show. peace

oh my apologies.. my comment was for RICEKING..not for cursed snake.. :)

My wife proudly posts her DDS from a Philippine Medical University next to her DMD from the University of Pennsylvania. Consider the polite response of the Philippine medical and political community to that of any other ethnic group and the show writers and producers, not actors since they only repeat what is given to them, and they are getting off easy. Think of protest marches led by Al Sharpton, JDL, etc if their people or institutions were similarly disparaged on national TV. Thank a Philippine doctor, dentist, nurse or other health care professional. Your health and possibly your life may be or has been in their hands.

Man filipinos are so annoying.. who the hell gives a shit. filipinos will do anything to start some bullshit!
Posted by: deandra on 01/10/2008 06:01 PM

I'm dating a filipina, and most of her relatives are way too sensitive to people saying crap like that. Don't waste our time with your petty arguements, and get over yourselves already!
Posted by: Henry on 05/19/2008 12:45 PM

Deandra, please do not generalize all Filipinos. It just shows how annoying and stupid you are. Based on your comment, you're the one who like to start "bullshit".
