There comes a time when all parents must part with the children they took a hand in raising. Come June, we are all going to have to face that inevitability, and begin to say goodbye to our beloved Teen Moms.
We’ve been with Maci, Farrah, Catelynn and Amber through pregnancy, childbirth, dates, trysts, breakups, reconciliations that facilitated more breakups, domestic abuse scandals, arrests, restraining orders, crying, crying, more crying and then every so often, we get to watch them focus on their kids.
The much-anticipated trailer recaps the beginning of the (supposedly) well-intended franchise and then in an attempt to bring us some closure, really just makes it clear that we are in for more of exactly the same.
In regards to her and Tyler’s incredibly mature but gut-wrenching decision to give up their daughter, Catelynn again proclaims that, “we did the best that we could have done.” And we still believe her.
Farrah proves her continual oblivion to her role as a parent when she reacts to a temper tantrum by continuing to style her hair, half-heartedly stating, “I’m trying to be nice, and like, let you be a toddler.” An admirable disciplinary technique that yields amazing curls with minimal frizz.
Amber breaks down with, “I don’t know how sane I can stay anymore.” While it’s an impressive attempt at self-awareness, the rest of us are still questioning how sane she ever actually was.
And Maci’s son Bentley echoes her sentiments, thereby successfully summing everything up with a wisdom beyond his years: “hell no.”
We still have this final season, but before you succumb to the grief of the eventual separation anxiety, rest assured that Teen Mom will never leave our lives for good. They’ll always be in our hearts, and odds are in aisles of our grocery store check out lines. Let’s all take a moment to thank the girls for sharing their most intimate moments with us for the past four years, and the tabloids for keeping us all connected in the future.
The final season premieres Tuesday, June 12 at 10/9c.
