Taylor Swift has made a career bashing boyfriends in songs, but how do the fellows feel about it on the other end of the music?
In a recent interview with Mojo during “The Mojo in the Morning Show,” Joe Jonas called in and got down to the brass tax of how he feels about the country star writing about exes like him in songs. Turns out he’s pretty alright with it.
“I think she’s doing her thing and she’s great at writing songs about break-ups,” said the Jonas. “So, stick to what you’re good at, right?”
Taylor’s new song “We Are Never, Ever Getting Back Together” has been compared to her relationship with Joe. Despite the speculation, he has insisted that the song isn’t about him. And, actually, he likes the tune a lot.
Oddly, as an ex-boyfriend, even if the song was written about him, Joe would find the experience “flattering.”
“Musicians should be allowed to write about whatever they want to write about and its freedom of speech,” he said. “So, you can’t really get too offended. But, I mean it is a bummer if you do hear you name in a song, but luckily it hasn’t happened yet.”
Since their breakup, Taylor has moved on to date Conor Kennedy and even bought a house next door to his family’s Cape Cod estate. From Joe’s point of friend, the ex-couple has remained on friendly terms.
“I can’t say we’re really best friends, but I’ve been able to go to her show actually,” he said. “I’m really happy for her success and I think she’s a great talent and always constantly releasing music and doing her thing.”
