So the CMA Awards aired last night and apparently the entire world loves country music because I can’t find anything online EXCEPT for news about the CMA Awards.
Apparently the show’s co-hosts Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley made fun of Taylor Swift for breaking up with her latest boyfriend about 2 seconds after they started going out. Anything that makes fun of Taylor Swift and her insatiable dating habit is fine by me.
So the bit started off like this: Carrie was like, “Brad and I were backstage talking about what a strange year this has been.”
“Just look at sports,” says Brad, “I can’t keep track of all these trades…”
And then he was like, “The greatest trade of the year had to be the Kennedy family. They somehow traded Arnold Schwarzenegger for Taylor Swift. I mean, what they got for that…”
And then Carrie stopped him mid-sentence and started to fake-whisper in his ear, as if she was telling Brad about Taylor’s recent break-up with Conor Kennedy.
“What? Why don’t I ever hear about these things? I’m the last one to know," says Brad.
Then Brad starts singing Taylor’s hit song “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” changing the lyrics to, “Are they ever gonna get back together?”
“Never,” sang Underwood, “Never ever.”
Do I sense a little bitterness from country music stars lashing out at T-Swift for not really be a country artist anymore but still sweeping every country music awards show? Maybe. Definitely, maybe.
Sadly, the camera never cut-away to get a reaction shot from Taylor during the bit. Probably because she wasn’t laughing.
