Is Taylor Lautner Gay?
When a People cover for the January 7, 2012 edition featured Taylor and the caption: "Tired of rumors, the Twilight star opens up about his decision to finally come out," rumors started flying on social media and news stations.
Taylor is quoted in the magazine, saying, "I'm more liberated and happier than I've ever been."
Everybody was talking about the big coming out news, even celebrities who were congratulating Taylor for standing up for himself, including Russell Simmons who tweeted "Proud of Taylor Lautner for his bravery and his courage."
A rep for People later confirmed that the cover was "absolutely fake" and concocted through Photoshop. However, rumors that Taylor was gay had been circulating months before the hoax hit the web, including Rolling Stone magazine's daring move to quiz Taylor on the circulating gay rumors.
"Another possibility is that maybe you're just sort of discovering yourself," the Stone interviewer asked.
"OK," Taylor replied.
"As a young person trying to figure out his sexual identity in the world," the reporter continued.
"OK. I see where you're going. Interesting choice," the star answered.
"It is a possibility," the writer added.
"There's a lot of rumors out there," Taylor answered.
He later denied the rumors in an interview with GQ Australia but they were quick rumors were ignited once again when Taylor was spotted in June dining with established director Gus Van Sant and Oscar-winning screenwriter Dustin Black, who are both gay. Although Taylor denied the rumors, it did not stop GQ from prying and asking whether or not the two men hit on him.
"No, definitely not... I think they know I'm straight. But they're great guys. They're a lot of fun." Taylor replied.
GQ was quick to apologize for their questions after Black criticized that it implied "gay men are by nature sexual predators."
Other than his suspected boyfriends, Taylor has dated his Abduction co-star Lily Collins, 22, and country singer Taylor Swift, 21, for three months during 2009.
