A-List Celebrities Who Used to be Homeless
Celebrities make a lot of money, like obscene amounts of money, like just coughing up twenty dollar bills and being like, “ugggh, I have so many of these,” but some celebs truly appreciate their fame because before they made it big they were homeless. Yep, these are the stars who traded in homeless shelters for Beverly Hills mansion.

Sylvester Stallone: Stallone once lived in a bus station for a few weeks, but then he booked a film in 1970 that paid $100 a day. He worked for two days and somehow $200 was enough to get him back on his feet. Oh, to be $200 in 1970.

Jim Carrey: Jim Carrey lived in a tent in the backyard of his older sisters home, Patricia Carrey. Actually his brother, sister and parents all lived in a tent in Patricia’s backyard. Why wouldn’t she let them come inside? Eh well, we’ll see if rich Jim Carrey is gonna give her any handouts!

Thomas Jane: Star of HBO drama “Hung” admits he was homeless and also a male prostitute. “When I was a kid out here in LA, I was homeless. I didn’t have any money and I was living in my car. I wasn’t averse to going down to Santa Monica Boulevard and letting a guy buy me a sandwich. Know what I mean?” I have no idea what that means? You like sandwiches?

Halle Berry: Berry reportedly lived in a homeless shelter when she was 21. She moved to NY to begin her acting career, but apparently it took awhile to take off. “Very briefly…I wasn’t working for a while,” says Berry, “But a girl had to do what a girl had to do.”

Kelly Clarkson: Ok, Clarkson was only homeless for two days, so she doesn’t really count. The day she moved to LA, her apartment building burned down. So she lived in her car for like, two days.

Kurt Cobain: Before Kurt Cobain became super successful as the frontman for Nirvana, he was kind of a professional couch-surfer. However, something tells me it was less about being poor and more of a lifestyle choice. He lived under a bridge, in a cardboard box on a friend’s porch, and also in a hospital waiting room. Yikes!

Daniel Craig: Way before he was smoldering in the “007 Movies” or in “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo,” he was sleeping on a park bench in London and totally homeless.

Carmen Electra: A lot of people don’t know that Carmen Electra was homeless for several years! She said she was homeless in her early 20’s when a boyfriend stole all her savings. “I remember sitting on a park bench in the valley. I was crying because I was stranded. It was over 100 degrees outside.”

Kelsey Grammer: He may have just bought a new home in the 90210 zip code, but back in his struggling actor days he camped out in the back of a theater with his motorcycle.

Jewel: Before Jewel “made it” she was living out of her VW van. “I was homeless when I was 18,” Jewel once famously said. Hey those VW vans are pretty spacious.

Shania Twain: Well before she won Grammys, Shania Twain was living in homeless shelters. She lived in one with her family when she was 14. At 16, she lived alone in Toronto by squatting in a vacant house and sleeping on a bus.

Sam Worthington: Before he booked the gig of a lifetime, starring in Avatar, he was living in his car on the streets of LA. “I was living in my car before I signed up for ‘Avatar.’

Hilary Swank: When Swank was 15 she and her mom moved to LA to pursue her acting career, but they couldn’t afford to live anywhere so they lived out of their car while Swank was running around town going to acting auditions.
