Not only is he a survivor, he’s a fan favorite, too. “Boston Rob” Mariano was crowned the winner on Sunday night’s “Survivor: Redemption Island”.
“I used what I brought to the game from my past experiences, was able to get my foot in the door, and the people were responsive to that," Mariano said.
Mariano went home with a $1 million check and an additional $100,000 for being voted the fan favorite. See, it really does matter if people like you.
Interestingly, Mariano’s wife, Amber, also won the game in 2004, beating out her future husband. Mariano kept this win from his wife, who didn’t find out until last night’s episode. Talk about self control. Because if I won a million dollars, everyone would know about it before the check was in my hands.
Mariano says when he left Nicaragua, he formed a bond with costar Natalie Tenerelli.
"Natalie was like a little sister to me," Mariano said. "She really was. She was very sweet. And you know what? At her age -- 19 years old -- it was a true testament to, you know, a real coming-of-age story.”
It would’ve been nice to come of age with a million bucks, but I guess the satisfaction of making it to the final three will have to do.
In the meantime, people in Nicaragua are stunned to find out their lifestyle is a game.
