Super Bowl XLIV Highest Watched Program Ever
February 8, 2010 by: BRIDGET DALY

According to the Neilson ratings, the New Orleans Saints vs. Indianapolis Colts showdown drew 106.5 million viewers, crushing previous Super Bowl records and beating out 1983's M*A*S*H finale, which garnered 105.97 million viewers. This is the first sporting event to ever break 100 million viewers.
Viewership was up 8% from 2009's Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Arizona Cardinals nail-biter, which was seen by a then-record 98.7 million viewers. Analysts believe New Orleans’ compelling comeback story added to the number of eyeballs.
The top-rated market was New Orleans, but the second highest wasn't Indianapolis. It was Washington, where a huge snowstorm presumably kept many residents at home and in front of the TV.
