Jones was warmly welcomed by hosts Barbara Walters, Joy Behar, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, Whoopi Goldberg and Sherri Shepherd. "I can say this genuinely: I am so happy to welcome back Star Jones!" Walters, 82, told viewers when introducing her former co-host on Wednesday.
Alright, enough with the pleasantries. Let’s get down to business. In 2006, Star announced she was leaving the show in a surprise segment instead of the pre-planned reveal that she and Walters agreed on. It was kind of a big deal at the time, if you don't remember.
“I take full responsibility for my own behavior, but I won't take responsibility if I did not make a decision I couldn't live with," Jones said. "I made the decision to go out on my own terms, to control it, so that if I was ever invited back, I would feel good about it."
Walters responded: “To say we were surprised is putting it mildly.”
Star then thanked her co-hosts for helping to cover up her 2003 gastric bypass surgery. Jones asked her colleagues to withhold information about the surgery and lie to viewers, telling them Jones lost weight through diet and Pilates.
“Because we loved you we did lie,” Walters told Jones.
Jones lost a whopping 160 pounds, and Behar congratulated her: “You’re now a skinny bitch,” Behar joked. “Congratulations!”
Gotta love the way us women can call each other bitches and get away with it.
