Sofia Vergara Confesses: My Boyfriend Wants Kids Now

She’s smoking hot, she’s got a great sense of humor and her career is red-hot. Modern Family star Sofia Vergara is on top of the world right now—and on the cover of this months Redbook magazine.

With Two Emmy nominations, a super successful show and an adorable boyfriend, Sofia feels like a very lucky woman right now. She confesses in the magazine that her boyfriend, politician Nick Loeb, is ready for babies, but the only thing on Sofia’s mind these days is Modern Family. Here are some highlights from the interview:

What were some of the positives about being a young mother?
“When I had Manolo, I was 19, and I had the energy for everything. My boyfriend now wants to have kids, and I don’t even want to think about it. I would have to get into that mind-set again, the waking up early.”

When you were a kid and you got curves, you weren’t happy with them. When did you start accepting your body?
“The thing is, I’ve had these ridiculously huge boobs since I was super young. Like, 13. I was really skinny at that time, so it was weird to have those f---ing boobs and be skinny. It was hideous. Then after I had my kid, I got hips and everything started to come together”

How she helps the Modern Family writers
: "When Modern Family was just beginning, I’d have to tell the writers what I thought would be better for me to say. Most of them are American men, so to write for a Latin woman is not as natural for them as writing for Julie [Bowen], for example. Because they have wives like Julie, sisters like Julie, you know what I mean? But now they’re so good, they’re like hot Latin girls!"

Her son on her accent:
"He humiliates me! He doesn’t understand how my accent can get worse and worse. He says, 'It’s not normal. Nobody does that.' So when I got nominated for the Emmy [in 2010] I called him and said, 'Right in your face! Even with my accent!'"

Have you ever heard that someone’s a fan of yours and thought, No way!
“When I was going to film [the upcoming movie] New Year’s Eve with Jon Bon Jovi—I mean, in Columbia, he is the biggest thing. I grew up being in love with him. So when I saw him, I was like, “Oh, my God, it’s Bon Jovi!” But when he saw me, he was like, ‘Oh my God, it’s Gloria!” Its just insane.”

On wanting to become a dentist:
"What I really wanted to be was a doctor. I love medicine. Everybody calls me all the time — 'I have this condition, what do I do?' But you have to study for 10 years. I knew I couldn’t do that, so I went for the next best thing, which was dentistry."

[On Modern Family] Who in the cast is similar to their character and who is totally different?
“I think I’m the most similar. I’m Latin, I have an accent, I have a kid from a previous marriage, and I’m Columbian. Julie is a lot like Claire; she’s very into doing things perfectly. She’s neurotic, in a good way. I think she and I get along so well because we’re very different. They don’t have to alter anything she puts on because she’s superfit. Everything I try on is hours of alterations. There’s no competition of any kind, which is what happens sometimes with women. Rico [Rodriguez], who plays my son, says he’s not at all like Manny, but we all think he is; he’s an old soul. Eric [Stonestreet] plays a gay guy and he’s not gay, so that’s the most different. But the rest of us, we’re very similar. Ty [Burrell] is exactly Phil.
