Everywhere you look, one of the cast members of
Jersey Shore is making an appearance for money and/or free swag.
Snooki showed up to an event in Philly called the Wing Bowl for Pete’s sake! The guidos and guidettes have been making upwards of $7500 at venues across the country. One crazy fan even offered Pauly D $25,000 to walk her down the aisle at her wedding!
But MTV has had enough, and they’re putting their foot down. The network has reportedly ordered the cast to stop making personal appearances ASAP.
A source tells the New York Post, "MTV has told the Jersey Shore crew they can only do two personal appearances a week, and that all of their gigs have to be approved by producers. They've threatened the cast that they will be fined if they flout the rules -- but some don't care and are blatantly going ahead to earn as much cash as they possibly can."
Insiders say the network execs think the show’s brand is looking too trashy with all the appearances the cast does. "They have to get permission from MTV prior to doing a personal appearance -- we don't want one of these kids appearing in a topless bar. Pauly D's fan base is about 85 percent women between 12 and 21, we have to protect that,” says the source.
We love that MTV is suddenly so concerned with the classiness of the show. Good luck with that!
