Simon Cowell Not Engaged

So much for that one. Earlier this week there were reports that grumpy old Simon Cowell had proposed to his girlfriend of six months, Mezhgan Hussainy, but it turns out it was nothing but a big fat rumor.

"I spoke to Simon in London yesterday afternoon, just before he took his flight back to LA," Cowell's longtime publicist and close friend Max Clifford tells Us Weekly. "I asked him: 'Look, are you engaged? Is it true?,' and he said, 'No! No. I'm not engaged.'"

So where did the rumor start from? His girlfriend was spotting sporting some serious bling on her engagement finger while dining with Cowell Sunday night at Mr. Chow's in London. And during a British TV appearance on Tuesday, Cowell said of Hussainy: "She's the one...She's very special."

Guess "she's very special" somehow translated to "we're engaged." Oh well...we knew Simon wasn't the marrying kind.
