Simon Addresses 'American Idol' Drama

There is a lot of debate this morning in regards to Simon Cowell and his behavior last night on 'American Idol'. Many claim he was caught on tape rolling his eyes when Chris Richardson sent out his support to everyone involved in the Virginia Tech shootings. Some feel that Simon was being disrespectful to all the victims and their families. However, Simon addressed the issue this morning on Ryan Seacrest's radio show on KIIS Fm.

Simon said that he never even heard what Chris said and was caught up with the nasal comment. "It was a crazy thing to say that nasal was a form of singing." It is ironic for Simon to have this discussion because before the show there was a discussion whether American Idol would make a refferecne to the tragedies but decided to pass. "in the middle of all of this, you get this crazy story that appears, that i rolled my eyes, the truth was i switched off at this point, I was taking to Paula...I didnt even hear what he did....I was rolling my eyes to Paula saying it’s such rubbish in regards to the nasal, was he singing on purpose?"

Ryan defended Simon saying, “When your on that set you can’t really hear until you watch the show.” Simon said he wanted to clear this up, because it is a sensitive subject and there are families involved. Simon is not upset that Chris addressed the isssue on the show but said that he would not talk about it on tonight’s Idol because "these things escalates because of the publicity it generates."

American Idol's executive producer Nigel Lythgoe also spoke to Ryan and was pretty upset about how people threw things out of proportion. “I sit next to Simon and I didn’t hear him say that, he was reacting to his discussion and argument to Chris. I didn’t even hear Chris mention this until this thing came out last night. Who on earth at this moment in time would be disrespectful on this subject and Simon has been disrepesented.“
