Former “American Idol” judge Paula Abdul has worked closely with Simon Cowell for many, many years.
As someone who’s laughed, cried, and fought with the star producer, she’s qualified to predict Simon’s parenting abilities—a skill set he’ll put into use when he welcomes his first child—a boy!—with girlfriend Lauren Silverman.
“He will be very, very patient,” Paula told Hollyscoop exclusively on the carpet of the 65th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards. “I think it is a very good thing. I think it is going to change his life forever!”
When she added that he might even stop smoking, former “AI” executive producer Nigel Lythgoe chimed in with, “No, I don’t think he will do that.”
What’s more realistic for Simon?
“He will change diapers,” Nigel said.
Paula and Nigel then joked that good ‘ol narcissistic Simon will pamper and dress the baby to look exactly like him. “He will make sure the diapers come up to above his waist,” Paula said, followed by Nigel, who quipped, “With a little black vest on” and a “buzz-cut on the sides.” (In Britain, they use “vests” in place of “V-necks,” which is all Simon ever wears.)
Overall, “He is going to be very good,” Nigel continued. “He is going to be very good. He is good with animals.”
Does that mean he’ll start being nicer to people, though, Nigel posed to Paula.
“No,” she answered. “Never.”
