From Simon Cowell to Whoopi: 10 Celebrity High School Dropouts
Some of our favorite stars spent years studying the art of acting—educating themselves onstage to perfect their craft. But for a select few, they got a break and decided to get the hell out of high school as fast as possible.

Most high school dropouts don't have much luck at finding a stable career path, but the entertainment industry is a totally different thing. It's a gamble, but if you get lucky, you can have a million dollar career with only a sixth grade education.

Here are 10 celebrity dropouts. But don't get delusional kids—stay in school.

Tracy Morgan: Why doesn't this surprise me? Tracy Morgan is funny, but part of his whole shtick is sounding dumb. "I'm glad I dropped out of high school, man. I wouldn’t be where I’m at. I would have had a net. I’m glad I didn’t have anything to fall back on, man, because that made me go for my dreams that much harder.”

Jim Carrey: Jim dropped out of high school in Toronto to flee to Los Angeles and pursue his dream. He spent years in comedy clubs before he started getting film roles. Worked out for him, but how many Jim Carreys are there?

Kelly Osbourne: She didn't drop out to pursue an acting or singing career; she wanted to treat her drug problem. Education can really get in the way of that.

Simon Cowell: At 16, Cowell dropped out of high school because he thought it was a waste of time. But hey, who needs an education when you have a British accent? That makes you sound smart enough. Add some glasses and a tweed coat, and you're a damn genius!

Whoopi Goldberg: The View's funny lady dropped out of high school because it was too hard. Yet, she sits next to Elizabeth Hasselbeck day after day without slapping her.

Catherine Zeta-Jones: At 15, Zeta-Jones dropped out of high school to get her Actor's Guild card. Hey, that one was just common sense. You can get your high school diploma over the Internet nowadays. Getting your SAG card is another story.

Hilary Swank: Oscar winning actress Hilary Swank says she's not particularly proud of dropping out of high school, because she believes education is important. Because of her lack of diploma, she got a bunch of heat for playing a teacher in the movie Freedom Writers. I agree, it's appalling. I also can't believe Patrick Dempsey and Ellen Pompeo don't have medical diplomas.

Quentin Tarantino: He dropped out during his first year because he thought he could learn more on his own. Well, that led to him working at a porn theater. If you thought the floors at a normal theater were sticky…

Al Pacino: He was accepted into the renowned acting program at the High School of the Performing Arts in New York City. He failed nearly every class. So at 17, he dropped out and decided to make it on his own.

Juliette Lewis: Not only did she drop out of school at 14, she divorced her parents, too. Lewis decided to focus on her career, and soon enough, she was dating Brad Pitt.
